Notes on converting foreign licences:

A holder of a valid foreign ATPL licence that has been issued by an ICAO Contracting State, may convert this licence to an Australian ATPL. The conversion requires passes in both the CPL Flight Rules & Air Law exam for the relevant aircraft category (either CLWA or CLWH) and the ATPL Air Law exam (AALW). The candidate must pass the CPL Air Law exam before attempting the ATPL Air Law exam.

There is no flight test for the ATP(A)L. However, the applicant for an ATP(A)L must hold, or have held an Australian command instrument rating. An equivalent overseas rating cannot be accepted.

In order to undergo flight training and testing in Australia, a candidate will need to obtain a certificate of validation. A certificate of validation will not be issued unless the applicant;

  • Holds a current foreign ATP(A)L from an ICAO contracting state.
  • Has obtained an Australian Aviation Reference Number
  • Has obtained an ASIC/AVID
C of V applications may be lengthy and will be valid for a limited duration. Please plan ahead.

CASA guidelines for the conversion of an ATPL can be found here.

Ad-Astral is located at Perth Domestic Airport. This offers easy and quick access to all navigational aids without the need for expensive and time consuming transit flights. As Perth is a Class C control zone, valuable experience operating amongst international and domestic jet traffic can be gained. For overseas license conversions, Perth offers the familiarity of Class C airspace, easing the conversion process. In addition, as our final destination is always Perth, an instrument approach to a full stop landing is guaranteed. This ensures the training value of each sortie is maximised.
